Joe Pompliano delivered a great prompt for any Sports Business class today.
"Many people are saying college bowl games have become meaningless due to NIL and the transfer portal.
What do you think is the best way to fix it?"
This is a topic that has been in the headlines for a few weeks. Some top players are opting out of their Non-CFP Bowl Games. There is the impact NIL is having on the Bowls. And of course there is the 2024/25 expansion of the CFP to 12 teams. If people are getting a "meaningless" vibe from the Bowls this year, imagine where we will be in 12 months.
So - - You have been give the role College Football Czar for a day. What do you do with the Bowls outside of the CFP? What can you grab from some other sports having success? Can you learn anything from the NBA? NFL? European Football? How would you change things?
